Famed poet Thomas Lynch Kicks off Poetry Month at Scarab Club

The poet and writer Thomas Lynch will kick off a series of free Poetry Month events at the Scarab Club as part of the Woodward Line Poetry Series. The award-winning author will read selected work of poets, including Nobel Prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney, Michael Donaghy, Maxine Kumin, Dennis O’Driscoll, and Conrad Hilberry. The event will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13 — also Heaney’s birthday.

Starting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, there will be readings from poets Will Alexander, Chris Tsyh and George Tush. And at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April , the venue will host the Quill Puddle anthology release party, featuring readings by Will Alexander, Barb Henning, Kim Hunter, Rob Lipton, Camille Martin, Ken Mikoloski, Christine Monhollen, Julie Patton, Dennis Teichman, George and Chris Tysh. The event will also feature music with Alexander on piano and Patton vocals with guitarist Paul and Drummer James Hart II, as well as a performance by the Doll Hairs.

Lynch’s writing has appeared in The New York Times, and he is also author of The Undertaking: Life Studies From The Dismal TradeLynch was subject of an MT cover story regarding a libel lawsuit back in 2009. The case was thrown out by the judge later that year, though.
