People Are Afriad to Merge

A couple of years ago, this band called The Jesus Chainsaw Massacre were better known for their bellicose blog than they were their surrealist punk and post-apocalyptic lounge-rock music…

Come to think of it, it’s been a while since I’ve seen them play out live…But, apparently that’s becuase they’ve been piecing together what could prove to be their piece de resistance – The Fall of Bryan Metro (named for the band’s provacateur frontman / worshipper of the works of author Bret Easton Ellis…)

Indeed…the title of their new single (released this week via JCM guitarist JR’s cassette label Checker’s) comes from a line in Ellis’ Less Than Zero. On the flipside, you get atmospheric synth-pop duo Revoir covering the same song - both of which are streaming over at Checker’s… Here, JCM goes off on a bit of a droney/dreamy Joy Division trip, while Revoir shows why they’re synth-shimmered sensibilities fit nicely along the likes of Phantasmagoria… (As it turns out, Revoir performs 4.28.12. with Phantasmagoria at the New Dodge…but Five Three Dial Tone could tell you more about that).

On a barely-related note – one of my favorite music zines, The Quietus, interviewed director Whit Stillman (if you haven’t seen Metropolitan or Last Days of Disco, educate thyself…) inside which the writer posits whether said director (“missing link between Woody Allen and Wes Anderson(?”) is possibly the “anti-Bret Easton Ellison…” Read on…

While you’re at the Quietus, dear Detroit readers, you may also be interested in checking out this article on one, Jack White… Not that he has anything to do with JCM’s new single, per se, nor their forthcoming album. Not that Phantasmagoria have anything to do with them anyway… It’s a blog post though, right? Those are inherently rambling… Or can be…

But, anyway,… it may behoove you to learn, that, if you’re interested, (or just a rabid collector, nay, a “completionist?”) that there are only 50 copies of the Merge cass-single.

Don’t be afraid…
