City Slang: Blues man in hospital
Local blues musician Carl Henry is currently in hospital and the Detroit Blues Society is asking for your help.
According to a source, Henry is “a veteran local blues musician with a heart of gold, always the first one in line to offer his services whenever the Detroit Blues Society puts on a benefit for a musician who has fallen on hard times. Now, it’s his turn.”
“Carl’s been hospitalized for several days with a very bad infection in his leg — he’d been in toxic shock for two days before going to Garden City Hospital. He has a very bad infection in his leg and required three surgeries in four days to remove the dead tissue in the leg. There is to be another surgery tomorrow. There is a long road ahead of him — he has no health insurance and is unable to work because of his condition. He also canceled about a week’s worth of shows before he went into the hospital as he was becoming sick.”
“The Detroit Blues Society has set up a fund for those who make a contribution to help him out. Make your checks payable to The Detroit Blues Society and put “Carl Henry Fund” in the memo line on the check. Mail donations to: Detroit Blues Society, ATTN: Carl Henry Fund, PO Box 488, Goodrich, MI 48438
The society is planning a benefit concert to help him with expenses. Details will be posted as we get them.
