Superman Batman

According to The Inquisitr, the forthcoming Man of Steel sequel, dubbed Superman vs. Batman, which will be partly shot in Detroit, will have a Michigan budget of $131 million, making it the largest production shot in Michigan to date.

The movie will be filmed in several locations within the state, including Michigan Motion Pictures Studio in Pontiac. It’s expected to bring in $5 million in revenue, and add approximately 6,000 jobs. Not bad at all.

So we can expect to see Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman, as well as Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, out in the streets of Detroit at some point this year. That’s the biggest collection of superheroes in the Motor City since the much-maligned Justice League Detroit in the ’80s.

Much has been said about this movie, which is expected to lead to a Justice League film in much the same way that Marvel built up to an Avengers movie. Some wonder how a God-like figure like Superman can really fight fairly against a human with gadgets like Batman (before they eventually team up anyway). Many don’t like the casting of Affleck after the very serious Christian Bale nailed the role in the Chris Nolan trilogy. Some object to the casting of the not-exactly-Amazonian Gadot.

We’re excited though. The trinity of top DC characters on the big screen together, while the excellent Arrow plays on TV (and the Flash to come) suggests that DC has finally gotten its act together in terms of a shared universe. Hopefully there’ll be solo movies for Wonder Woman and Aquaman, plus a Green Lantern reboot. Hopefully we’ll get to see the likes of the Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Nightwing and Captain Marvel/Shazam on the big screen soon.

We’re geeked out. How do you feel?
