Motor City Rah-Rahs on top!

What a week it is for our local band of rock ‘n’ roll cheerleaders, the Motor City Rah-Rahs. The group has been providing pom-poms, power and pulchritude at local rockfests, raising smiles and keeping spirits high with their antics. The spirited gals had a setback this summer, when Rah-Rah Julie Hecker died at the young age of 44. But it would seem the public goodwill that embraced the group after that sorrow has come back in an interesting way: They’re No. 1 in Detroit!

No. 1 in Detroit? Well, yes, as far as Budweiser is concerned. The ladies have lit up Budweiser’s Band of Buds contest, a search for “America’s Greatest Crew.” When the voting is over, 25 crews will get a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, where one winning crew gets $100,000 and a feature spread in Rolling Stone. It would seem the Rah-Rahs’ Vegas tickets are a distinct possibility, as they are the top vote-getting crew in Detroit on Budweiser’s Band of Buds website.
