Sad news from the West Coast: We were forwarded an e-mail from poet Wardell Montgomery, by way of Aurora Harris and another intermediary or so, on the deteriorating condition of former Detroit playwright and poet Ron Allen.
Ron was said to be in a coma and on a respirator at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. His brother, Carl, can reached at 313-477-9009 and appreciations and affirmations can be passed on by way of friendsofbroadside@yahoogroups.com.
“His family would like us all to keep Ron in our thoughts and prayers,” wrote Montgomery.
Ron Allen, who has been in the L.A. area for the last several years, continuing to pursue his craft there, left behind a unique void in Detroit’s arts community. He was our blues man, Eastern sage, surrealist and more.

Ron Allen was a great artist, cultural guru , spiritual genius and a voice
for the poor and marginalized peoples of the world. His thrist and
quest of spiritual truths, compassion and love of God and humanity
was insatible. He was a great and dear friend for many years. May
    he rest in God’s peace.
