Everybody in the 313: Em to judge freestyle battle
Chills still run down my spine every time I see the final freestyle battle in 8 Mile…mostly because I didn’t go to high school at Cranbrook and, therefore, am a better rapper than Papa Doc.
Eminem probably doesn’t get the chance to jump into many battles at St. Andrew’s Hall anymore, but that’s not to say he’s forgotten that freestyling catapulted him to stardom. On Thursday, Em will judge the final battle of Red Bull EmSee: The Road to 8 Mile, a three-round freestyle competition featuring eight emcees from across the country.
Em will judge alongside his DJ, Alchemist, and fellow D12 member Mr. Porter. Here’s what Em expects to see, according to RedBull.com:
I’m looking for somebody to stand out, to be unique and to say the sickest, most ridiculous, most retarded shit you can say, something that makes somebody want to quit.
The final spot in the competition is reserved for a Detroit contestant, who will be chosen today. FM 98 held an on-air freestyle contest with local rappers Supa Emcee, Ketch Phrase, Hatch and FowL, who was featured earlier this month on our blog. Listeners can vote online until noon today to choose who will advance to the finals Thursday.
Tickets are $10 at the door, which opens at 9 p.m. Check out the video below for an interview with Marshall Mathers about the competition, and get ready to put your motherfucking hands up Thursday night.
