Chiddy Bang shows off at The Shelter
Beresin had taken the mic from his partner, Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege, in the middle of their set at The Shelter at St. Andrew’s Hall Saturday night. The pair, who have single-handedly created an entire sub-genre of hip hop -”popelectronicafrobeatclubhiphop,” according to Beresin – were performing as part of their Swelly Life Tour.
Chiddy Bang became a mainstay of New Hip Hop with its freshman mixtape, “The Swelly Express,” which boasted over 100,000 downloads in its first month. The group’s electronic sound and beautiful samplings have put it on the creative edge of the industry, and the producer-emcee combo of Anamege and Beresin said they expect to drop their debut album in the fall.
On Saturday, Beresin took suggestions from the crowd for freestyle topics, claiming that Anamege could rhyme “anything with anything”: grinding all day (you know, the type of grinding you tell your 14-year-old daughter not to do), Burn Rubber (the Royal Oak clothing boutique), Busta Rhymes, Godzilla and DJ Benzi.
And boy, Anamege didn’t disappoint.
